Coming exhibitions

Benedikte Bjerre
May 21 – August 30, 2026

With her iconic works featuring hens, penguins, flowers and bees, Benedikte Bjerre (DK, b. 1987) stands out as a leading talent on the Danish and international art scene. This summer, Gammel Strand presents the artist’s largest solo exhibition to date in Denmark, unfolding across two floors and creating connections between new and existing works.

Within her artistic universe, Bjerre explores how we navigate society – from the secure frameworks of the welfare state to shifting global power structures. Working through sculpture and installation, she develops a playful yet pointed visual language that, with satirical precision, examines how norms are formed and sustained. Visitors are invited into a speculative and imaginative world, where symbols and signs circulate within her conceptual, readymade-based practice.

Ursula Munch-Petersen
May 21 – August 30, 2026

Denmark’s most prominent ceramicist was an artist at heart. Ursula Munch-Petersen (DK, 1937–2025) devoted her life to form-making, and her work – ranging from large-scale public commissions to the well-known URSULA tableware – engages with themes such as climate, care, value systems and the fundamental conditions of life. She built a bridge between free artistic expression and functional design, bringing together aesthetics, utility, politics and rhythm.

Born in Rønne on the island of Bornholm, Munch-Petersen’s interest in ceramics began at home. Later in life, she also experienced how sudden success led to demands for mass production, challenging her artistic integrity.

The exhibition at Gammel Strand is the first since the artist’s passing in 2025 and presents new perspectives on the work of this widely cherished ceramicist.
