TALKS

In connection with the summer exhibitions, we present two talks – one dedicated to each of the exhibiting artists, Benedikte Bjerre and Ursula Munch-Petersen.

Ursula Munch-Petersen in Perspective
August 13, 17:00–18:00

Ursula Munch-Petersen lived close to nature with her hands in clay. At the same time, she left a mark of the highest calibre on Danish design. For her, unique art and functional craft were two sides of the same coin – both driven by a deep joy and desire for the material and the work itself.

The talk is divided into two parts. In the first, Munch-Petersen’s spouse, painter Erik Hagens, joins curator Mai Dengsøe in conversation. Together, they paint a portrait of Munch-Petersen’s life, working processes and the ideas behind her artistic practice. The couple spent much of their lives together on Møn, and the conversation offers a rare insight into the artist behind the works.

In the second part, director of Kunsthal Gammel Strand, Nanna Hjortenberg, and director of Designmuseum Danmark, Anne-Louise Sommer, place Munch-Petersen’s work within an art and design historical context. What significance has her practice had – and how does it resonate today?

The talk will be held in Danish and moderated by cultural journalist Gustav Hagild.

Artist Talk with Benedikte Bjerre
August 30, 14:00–15:00

In conversation with internationally acclaimed curator Cédric Fauq from CAPC Musée d'Art Contemporain de Bordeaux, artist Benedikte Bjerre unfolds her largest solo exhibition in Denmark to date.

Framed by the exhibition CAPITAL, Bjerre offers insight into her practice and investigations of money as both symbol and system. In dialogue with Fauq, she expands on her perspectives on sustainability, value and consumption — and how these forces shape the ways we live and understand the world. The conversation opens up new interpretations of CAPITAL and situates the works within broader cultural and economic structures.

The talk will be held in English.
